It is the Montrose and Elgin regions that have been significantly affected by flooding, concerning service routes between Aberdeen and Dundee, states Network Rail.
High water volumes continue to have an impact on these areas and are responsible thousands of tons of track-bed supports being swept off.
David Simpson, Network Rail's route director for Scotland, said: "Flooding has caused significant damage to our infrastructure and our engineers are on-site at locations across the north-east and Highlands working to restore services in what are very demanding conditions."
He added that the organisation was doing everything they could to allow services to resume, such as trying to keep routes going or providing a bus service as an alternative means of transport.
Network Rail runs an independent website called Safety Central which endorses best practice and consistency across the entire network.
