East Coast Main Line Company reveals £12m plan Image New railway jobs could be created after rail services formerly operated by National Express East Coast have been transferred to new operator East Coast Main Line Company.

Railway jobs which may be affected by the changes include those on services between London King's Cross and destinations including Aberdeen, Inverness, Newcastle, York, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

East Coast has announced that improvements to the service will be made over the next two years including £12 million for station improvements, better standards of cleanliness on trains and a new Saturday evening service from King's Cross to Leeds.

There will also be an extra morning service on a Sunday from Leeds to King's Cross.

Andrew Adonis, transport secretary, said: "East Coast staff have real pride in their jobs; they want to offer a fantastic service and the new company will give them the tools for the job."

The East Coast service employs 3,000 staff and carries more than 18 million passengers every year.
