Birmingham New Street station is set to be given a makeover courtesy of funding from Network Rail - among others - if plans submitted to the city's council last week are approved.
Jo Kaye, route director for the organisation, said: "Birmingham is home to world class design so we have to deliver a station that is visionary and adds to this great architectural heritage."
She added that the network's plans for the New Street station will serve to not only make a better travelling experience but also improve the city's reputation.
In 2007, outline consent was given which meant that further work has since been carried out to develop plans in order to make the station better - for not just the people using the rail services, but the area it resides in.
The responsibility for the UK's rail was taken over by Network Rail in 2002. As an organisation it currently employs around 35,000 staff and claims that since it took over management, the form of travel has become more reliable, efficient and safer.
