As a result of the recent flooding in the region, Network Rail has decided to erect a temporary railway station.
Robin Gisby, director of operations and customer services, said: "Our people will work round the clock to build a temporary rail station, north of the river, to help reconnect the town and ease people's travel problems."
He added that the company has not only the expertise but the experience to go with it, which it intends to put at the Cumbrian authorities' disposal.
The organisation has marked out a site in Workington to host the new facility in order in improve access for locals in light of the recent bad downpours.
Over half a mile to the north of the current station is where the wasteland for the new facility resides. Once built, the new station will serve to reconnect the two halves of the town which have been separated due to the damage caused by flooding to local roads and footbridges.
Network Rail currently has in place a Health & Safety Management System in order to manager risks and maintain organisational health and safety objectives.
