Some £435,000 has been put towards making the South Croydon railway station cut its power use via 42 photovoltaic panels.

It is hoped these will provide electricity for brand-new CCTV cameras and lighting. Transport for London (TfL) collaborated with various companies, including Network Rail and Seltrans, to undertake the task of introducing these green measures.

TfL director of integrated programme delivery, Ben Plowden, said the scheme was "innovative" and made a real difference to the station.

"The low-carbon aspect of the project makes it particularly exciting and we are pleased to be involved in something that can make such significant improvements in an environmentally-friendly way," he added.

In addition to the solar panels, extra cycle racks were installed and a new 400-metre path for cyclists and pedestrians was created.

Earlier this week, TfL marked the tenth anniversary of the Docklands Light railway Lewisham extension.ADNFCR-1187-ID-19482137-ADNFCR
