Opened today (November 27th) by Tessa Jowell and Boris Johnson, it is the third ticket hall for the station and will officially open this coming Sunday.

Some 300,000 passengers use the interchange each day and the hall is intended to help increase capacity, reduce congestion and improve accessibility.

Ten brand-new escalators have been installed, as well as 300 metres of new tunnels, new entrances and step-free access lifts.

According to transport secretary Andrew Adonis, some £800 million was used to update the facilities - and the capital should be proud of it.

"This project demonstrates our firm commitment to delivering a sustainable and efficient transport system fit for the 21st century," he added.

Earlier this week, Transport for London announced that Oyster pay as you go cards will be useable from January 2nd 2010 on all National rail services in London.

It will also enable commuters to pay for journeys on the Thames Clipper.
