According to the Daily Post, the proposed service would go from France through Britain's most advanced rail freight terminal at Daventry in the West Midlands before linking to Holyhead for the short ferry ride to Ireland.

Welsh Assembly Government transport minister Ieuan Wyn Jones told the news provider: "We are doing what we can to move freight on to rail. This project could be very important in doing that and in terms of jobs for Holyhead."

He added that grant funding is available to assist with the removal of freight on to rail services from UK roads.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Gordon Brown stated that the London Gateway transport hub in Essex will create thousands of transport jobs upon its completion.ADNFCR-1187-ID-19547861-ADNFCR
